Since 2002, when a flood swept across Dobrichovice, wild and lush natural vegetation has been thriving along the banks of the river. A fascinating tangle of nettles, broken trees and high grass create a curious piece of land in the middle of this small town in the Czech Republic. Its charm has been a source of inspiration as well as a place of rest for us.
In the next few years, an asphalt road is going to border the river bank, which will disrupt the place’s identity.
At this point in time, a petition by the citizens of Dobrichovice is under discussion and it will be interesting to see the outcome. Lobbying and corruption will be a major, global problem of the future. Revenue from construction contracts will probably erase many beautiful places on earth, despite clear opposition from native populations. Riverside Paradise series is our farewell to one such place.
